We’re going to be on the telly mum!
for the last 5 or so years we’ve being filming a lot of the bands and us while we’ve been on tour doing The Aussie BBQ shows. Most years we’ve come home fallen into a heap and then gone back to our day jobs to help pay for the debt we’d racked up. The footage sitting in hard drives on shelves ready for their time to shine.
This year though the good folk at BigPond music decided enough is enough and it’s time for the world to actually see what goes on while trying to make it as an Australian band touring across North America.
So instead of hard drives sitting on the shelf this year they were sent back to home base edit suite to create what has become our first proper look at the Aussie BBQ tour. I don’t know why, but we do… The Aussie BBQ 2011.
In 2011 it featured 36 Australian bands over 3 stages making it the biggest Australian only gig outside of Homebake. The Aussie BBQ has showcased over 200 of the biggest names in Australian music from Powderfinger to Birds Of Tokyo, Missy Higgins to Washington, The Living End to The Jezabels.
With close to 60 acts on the road this year it was the biggest contingent of Australian acts to tour through North America at the one time, all trying to win. ”I don’t know why, but we do” features interviews and behind the scenes from The Jezabels, Hungry Kids of Hungary, Paul Dempsey, Bliss N Eso, Washington, The Novocaines, Dan Brodie and a whole lot more as they talk you through how it really is on the road.
The Aussie BBQ 2011 documentary will premier on the BPM TV music channel on 29th May at 8.30pm and then made available for on-demand viewing.
To coincide with this year’s tour Stage Mothers have also released a digital only compilation record inventively titled “The Aussie BBQ Tour 2011” which is available to download through BigPond Music and other online outlets, featuring a selection of 15 great Australian tracks by artists including; The Jezabels, Sampology, Blue King Brown, Hungry Kids Of Hungary and Wagons.
